Fisheye within the $100's maybe?

I've got a Nikon D40x and im looking for a decent pricing on a fisheye lens.... ive done numerous researches about the 10.5mm nikkor and the 3.5 peleng and the tokina, sigma yadadadada but their all too expensivvve!
with that said it leaves me one choice which is the zenitar 16mm-- i think.... would anyone recommend? and does anyone know of anything else in my budget range?.... no converters... any help would be nice.
thanks.

You've done your research well. Unfortunately, the Zenitar is about as cheap as these lenses go. For ~$200, you get a well built fisheye with (fairly awesome) Cyrillic text on both the lens cap and the barrel.

The tradeoff is that it's a non-circular FX fisheye lens. You'll lose most of the "fishiness" by putting it on a DX camera.

Your only other option in this price range is the Peleng, at ~$330. It projects a circular image on an FX camera, so on your D40x, you'll get dark corners, but you won't lose the massive barrel distortion or the 180 degree angle of view.

It really comes down to what your plans for the lens are. For what it's worth, there's nothing wrong with the Nikkor. It's expensive, but you can always sell it if you change your mind. Lenses don't depreciate like camera bodies.

Good luck!
